Would you believe me if I told you there exists… an island you can visit… that has wild dingos, kangaroos, freshwater lakes that look straight out of the Caribbean, straight up rainforests, epic sand blows, beachy swimming holes dubbed, “champagne pools”, shipwrecks, a natural lazy river, and a beach highway?? Go there now!! Or at least feast your eyes on the below proof pudding and book your trip immediately.
In all seriousness, this was one of the coolest tours I’d ever been on. I booked with Drop Bear Adventures at the reco of some locals in the know, and was not disappointed. We camped on the island for 2 nights, and spent 3 whole days exploring the amazing natural diversity Fraser (or as we should be calling it by its original name, K’gari) has to offer both the intrepid and the bogan. Camping and car rides in 4×4’s will really force you to get to know each other, and having booked the tour solo I’m happy to say I made some lasting Facebook-legit friendships with this group. Our guide Jake was extremely knowledgeable about the islands and all its creature inhabitants, and didn’t hesitate to demonstrate proper boomerang and snake handling techniques. And we lived to tell the tale! Epic success.
Enough set up, you just have to see it to believe it. And then just GO.
🙂

Even the car ferry over from Inskip point was scenic as heck.

No roads? No problem.

The highway, at rush hour.

I mean really, with these blues??

This was not our tour vehicle, but this is another option you can chose. Personally I think it looks like a garbage truck transformer, but hey- it’s probably air conditioned.
Eli Creek! A natural lazy river through the jungle you walk up, and float down. And no crocs in sight. Win win!

The champagne pools, because when the waves break on the rocks it sounds like champagne bubbles pouring into the pools 🙂

Who raised their hand the fastest when cute pilot asked for volunteer co-pilots? This girl.
Aforementioned cute pilot. Concentrating quite hard. Good on ya, mate.
